NEW TO GOLF 2014
Following the success of our 2013 New to Golf Open Day programme we plan to hold three Open Days this year. The dates are 2 pm, Saturday 22nd March, 17th May and 28th June. We need all members to support these Open Days as we know that the best method for recruiting new members is by word of mouth. So if you know of any candidates who wish to take up golf would you please contact Sarah Walton, David Mains or Nigel Venables
You will receive £25 bar voucher for each new full member who joins the Club.
On the Saturday we will meet the candidates in the Clubhouse, talk about golf in general then proceed to the Academy Course to hit a few balls followed by a Putting Competition. Candidates who wish to sign up for the New to Golf programme will be given 10 hours of coaching for £75 or less (special offer for the first 10 to sign up).
A MESSAGE FROM BEE
The Ladies’ Section here at kington is an active, enthusiastic mix of ladies, and this mixture has been reflected in the real variety of past Lady Captains. They’ve all been successful in their own way and I am really excited to have my chance to keep the ball rolling - in a straight line I hope!
My main aim in 2014 is to help ensure that we have a Club in which golfing pleasure, competition and friendship all flourish. The 2014 Captains’ Joint Charity will be “HELP”’. There is more to helicopter emergency landing pads than you might at first suppose - for instance, you probably know the pad at Hereford hospital is on the far side of the car park? The Charity plans to install traffic lights there so the trolley can be rushed safely across the roads. You may also know of the Special Spinal Injuries Unit near Oswestry - it had a really bumpy route from pad to hospital until help had a smooth path installed

And finally .... Dai was one question away from winning a million pounds on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Chris Tarrant asked which out of these four birds do not build a nest – a sparrow, a crow, a magpie or a cuckoo. After some thought Dai asked to use his last life line and phone a friend. Dai called Taffy who immediately said a cuckoo of course. The next day they met to celebrate the win and Dai asked Taffy why he was so sure it was a cuckoo - Taffy said “I thought you would have known that Dai. Everybody knows that a cuckoo doesn’t build a nest because it lives in a clock!’”.
