The Captains drive-in took place at Kington Golf Club on Sunday 8th January. The golf club at 1284 feet above sea level was also above the mists which shrouded the valleys, affording golfers excellent views to the surrounding countryside.
Mike Waygood takes over as the 2017 Men's Captain, Jenny Kelly as the Lady's Captain, Tom Ritchie is the Junior Captain and Glynn Wictome is the Senior’s Captain. The Past Captains each reported on their enjoyable year in office and wished the incoming Captains a happy and successful year.
Last year's ladies’ captain Pip Frost, presented a cheque for £5,663.64 on behalf of the club, to the Martha Trust the 2016 captains chosen charity. The cheque was gratefully received by Nicky West, Director of Care, who gave an overview of the Martha Trust and explained that the money would help their residents take part in a new gardening scheme which is due to be launched this year.
A nine hole medal competition preceded the drive-in with Will Skyrme in 1st place with 38/9/29; 2nd Brian Morgan 33/3.5/29.5; 3rd Dai Morgan 39/9/30; 4th Les Baker 39/8.5/30.5 and 5th Ray Evans 34/3/31. The ladies competition was won by Chris Evans 49/9.5/39.5 from Pip Frost 47/6.5/40.5.
Matt Atkinson, Brian Morgan, Dave Bradley, Martin Blackaller and Mark Houcher each had a 2, whilst Les Baker had two 2s.
A hard fought raffle between father and son eventually saw John Priday the owner of the charity parking space for 2017, raising £310 for the British Heart Foundation, this year's captains charity.
After the meeting the members and their guests enjoyed lunch courtesy of the club.
