Seniors Newsletter July 2016

Upcoming Events

Joint Captains Charity Day – this Saturday 30th July there is a team stableford for the Mens and Ladies Captains charity. Teams of 4, best 2 scores, with plenty of prizes – nearest the pin on all par 3’s, longest drive. Any combination of player in a team so invite family and friends! Ring the Pro Shop or add your team on the main noticeboard, Shotgun start at 10.00 am I believe.

Seniors Open – still places available for the Seniors Open. Pairs betterball competition off the yellows. Contact Chris Scott who still has some early slots but hurry as they are in demand. Two competitions in one as there is a gross medal score and a stableford score plus nearest the pin on 2 x par 3’s and 18th + a raffle and 2’s so every chance of winning something even if it is a bottle of aftershave!

We also need donations for the raffle prizes so all contributions welcome.

Away Day – we are exploring the possibility of having the third and last Away Day of the year on October 6th at Celtic Manor. There seemed to be enough interest on the basis of £45 for the usual bacon bap + tea/coffee, 18 holes of golf followed by 2 course meal on the Montgomerie course. Opportunity to play on a course used for professional tournaments with very true greens – so every excuse when I 3 x putt! I will find out more detail but watch out on the Seniors noticeboard for details!

Club Championship – one up for the older golfers,  with the winner being 55+ (admittedly an over 55 also came 40th out of 40 no names but Richard Elmes should be congratulated for taking part!). Yes - George Smith won the Club Championship with a pair of 74’s – amazing performance showing all those long-hitting youngsters that it isn’t how far but how many that counts!

Herefordshire Seniors Championship – Gordon Glover came 2nd, losing in a 4 hole play-off, at the County Seniors Championships. A very fine performance by Gordon in tough windy conditions (at least they were for me as I lost 5 balls!). We know he is a shy retiring chap but if you ask him nicely he may well tell you all about it!
