Ladies’ Coffee Morning – Tuesday, 23 April 2013
At last a great day weather wise and Kington Golf Course looked its best. 50 Ladies took part in the Competition and the whole day was wonderfully organized by Sue Patterson. Elaine Allen was in charge of the coffee, biscuits and cake stall with help from Audrey Fox, Gill Lloyd , Betty Ashworth and others. The Competition was over 9 holes Stableford.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HELPED AS THE DAY WAS TREMENDOUS.- ESPECIALLY SUE PATTERSON WHO WORKED TIRELESSLY BEFOREHAND AND DURING THE DAY TO MAKE IT ALL WORK.
The Co-op in Kington had donated biscuits and anything else we needed and Candy in the Fruit and Veg shop in Presteigne had prepared and donated a lovely basket of fruit. I have written thank you letters to both shops.

Ladies' Post Easter Lunch - 16 April, 2013
The scheduled Easter lunch was postponed because of the snow but we did enjoy the rescheduled day on the 16th April. The weather was kind to us – fair and dry and Steffan and Agi provided a very good meal which was enjoyed by all.
46 Ladies came to the day and it was great to see some coming back to enjoy the food and company after their illnesses. The Competition was played in 3’s over 9 holes with Angela Wilkes, Hermoine Evans and Audrey Fox winning the day.
After the meal the prizes were presented for the competitions played since Christmas – normally this would have been the Accumulator but this had been cancelled due to the weather.

The Ladies section started 2013 with a "New Years Bash"
This involved a Waltzing Stableford Competition over 12 holes. The weather was dry although some of the Course was quite wet and the weather was a little windy. No worse than we are all used to though!!!! This was followed by coffee and mince pies. 12 Ladies took part with enthusiasm and had brought unusual headgear as we had a prize awarded to the best/funniest hat. This had to be judged in the Clubhouse after the Competition as most hats would not stay on in the wind! Thanks to Agi who acted as Judge on this occasion.
The competition was won by the trio of Sue Patterson, Claire Burton and Audrey Philpott with 49 points The best hat winner was Joan Morgan.

Ping Championship
We only had a shower of rain at the very start of the day and from then on it remained dry thank goodness. We did however, have to play in a howling gale - we should have felt really at home! The website described the competition the following day as “played over the testing Kartner Course in windy and cold conditions” quite an understatement we thought.!
We finished 32nd out of 60 with 31 points, not too bad on 3/4 handicap on a difficult course. The course would have been challenging on a still day as it was very long with lots of water and sand and with the wind it was difficult to choose the right club. The ladies playing with us had taken the opportunity to have a practice round the day before but we didn't and as it took us close on 6 hours to play I am very glad we didn't. We were exhausted by the end of the day and so glad to have our husbands supporting us,
It was certainly a day to remember and we were thrilled to be representing Kington Golf Club. The only other local clubs were The Shropshire and Worcestershire and we just pipped them on the leader board!
We had a wonderful day, each receiving a lovely Ping golf bag, a pair of Echo golf shoes and a voucher for £50 to spend on Ping on line – not to mention a Ping golf umbrella each.
