ENGLAND GOLF GOLFMARK AWARD

We are pleased to report that the club has been awarded the England Golf GOLFMARK AWARD (High Achiever) Having met high standards in: Coaching/ Playing, Club Environment (including sports equity and ethics),  Child Protection & Duty of Care, the Playing Activity/ Programme.  Club Management and Knowing your Club and its community.   Credit for achieving  the Award must go to Jayne Hotchkiss, Sarah Walton  and David Mains.

JUNIOR ORGANISER - Jayne Hotchkiss our Junior section organiser for the last 3 years will be stepping down in November.  So are you the person who can replace Jayne as Junior organiser supported by Sarah, Committee and club members plus the parents?  If you are, would you please contact the Chairman,  Mr A Priday on 01544 388570  for more information.

An evening with MIRRORBALL –Burton Hotel, Kington on Saturday,  26 October.   You should be there.  The Mirrorball is a lively 6 piece party band.  Tickets available from Niki Scott, Mary Hill or Allan Williams.  Cost £20 to include supper.  Proceeds split between Air Ambulance and the Club

Winter Rules come into effect from Monday October 7.  Members and Visitors are respectfully  requested to observe the rules which are designed to protect the course and provide fair play.  See the notices around the club for full details.

KINGTON SHOW

David Mains, Richard Hill and a band of willing helpers made their presence felt at the Kington Show.

We received a total of 23 enquiries. two people wish to join our Winter £120 membership.  Plus we have a lead on two more taking the total to four. 11 People, five male and six female wish to join our Spring 2014 New to Golf coaching and this brings the total to 19 on the waiting list.

Seven Juniors - three male and four female ranging from the ages of 6 to 15 wish to join the Junior section.

We collected a total of £53 from the putting competition - the winner with 5 down was Graham Priday.  The support from our members was excellent and it is hoped we can convert these enquires to Club memberships.

THE LADIES ARE HAVING A BUSY TIME AND HERE ARE SOME OF THEIR RESULTS: 

Lady Captain's At Home Day  – 2 September -  17 Ladies played 9 holes on the Knighton Course and had a barbecue at the Lady Captain’s house afterwards.  The weather was perfect so that everyone could enjoy the views from a different course.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.  Comment of the day by Sue Davies – “ I will never complain about the Kington Course again!”   1st Mandy Jones 16 points, 2nd Pip frost 15 points, 3rd Sue Purslow 14 points and 4th Greta Davies 13 points.   Nearest Pin: Enid Crowe,  Longest Drive : Audrey Philpott, ,  Putting Competition: Sue Purslow,Jo Burton, Jane Burgoyne.                                                                                   

On the 7th September we played the All Winners Trophy with the following results: 1st Barbara Smith 95 – 23 = 72, 2nd Barbara Radbourne 91 – 18 = 73, 3rd Pip Frost 88 – 13 = 75                                                                                 The Ladies scratch league team beat Burghill at home by 4 - 1  a great success in our first season in this league.                                                         

In the Ladies and Seniors day we all enjoyed ourselves in a good social occasion and the results were: 1ST Iris Corfield and Terry Waite, 2nd Kay Taylor and George Smith, 3rd Liz Lockwood and Richard  Hill.  All on 41 points.                                                                       

Away Trip to Coleford     Lorraine Bourne organized a great trip for the Ladies to the Bells Hotel and Golf Course.  The weather was generally kind and we played team competitions with a different team each day. The overall winner –  Ruth Alexander was in the winning team both days. 

A couple of new items have appeared on the course recently – have you noticed the Periscope near the 13th Tee?  Not easy to miss I know. Our thanks go to Dave Weston for creating it – plus Paul England and Dave Patterson for helping Dave to erect it. A new seat has appeared on the slope down from the 17th green – anyone know the background.

New Member of Hole in One Club

Colin Mansell is the latest addition to the Hole in One Club – and he did it in style.  It was in a Seniors Home match against Burghill Valley and he achieved it on the 18th.  Well done Colin.

Coronation Cup Winners Sunday, 15 September, 2013  We thought we would have to cancel the event as the forecast was for gale force winds and heavy rain. In the end the day was very windy and there were heavy showers but all went well.  Jane and Peter Burgoyne did all the organization very efficiently and well and the meal was very good.

RESULTS  1st  Ray Kellard & Enid Crowe 33 points,  2nd Tony House & Joan Morgan 33 points, 3rd  M. Kidd & J. Danks 30 points, 4th W & C Evans 30points.                   

GROSS PRIZES 1st George Smith & Phillipa Frost 22 points,        2nd Ross Moore & Angela Wilkes 20 points

And finally--  A duck walks into a bar and asks the barman ‘got any bread’ ‘No’ replies the barman. Again the duck asks ‘got any bread’  ‘No for the second time’ replies the barman. Duck again ‘got any bread’. ‘NO we haven’t got any bread, ask me again and I’ll nail you squeaking beak to the bar you irritating bird!!. ‘Got any nails asks the duck’ NO’ shouts the barman ---- to which the duck replies --- ‘Got any ......”
