BRADNOR BUGLE AUGUST 2015

Paul Barrington THE STRIKER

Come and see Paul Barrington perform his amazing golf trick shot show at Kington Golf Club Thursday 27th August 2015, bring your
friends - Show starts at approximately 6.30 pm. Tickets are only £5 for adults and £3 for under 18s.  Tickets bought prior to the event include a golf ball which will be part of the show, giving you a chance to win a fantastic prize.  Please purchase your tickets before the day of the event at the Pro Shop, so we can make sure we can accommodate everyone.

There will also be a questions and answers session afterwards in the club house.

NB  This means the 1st and 18th tee will be closed in the early evening on 27th.

Club Championship

The Club Championship as you may be aware was abandoned after 18 Holes due to poor weather (waterlogged course and low cloud) and will be replayed on 23rd August. (Thanks to the green staff for coming back up to the course to try to get the course/greens playable).  We have therefore re-arranged the Golden Jubilee Cup for Sat 5th September 2015. Notices have been put on the board and on the web site.

Junior Golf

The Junior Captains Day has been organised for 15th August.  This is teams of 4, Texas Scramble.  You can register on the Junior Board as a team or individual.

The Junior Open is to be held on Friday 21st August

Jamie Thomas has been selected to play for County U18s Midlands League.

A competition for the Hussey Trophy was played in June and further Junior competitions for other trophies are to played during August.  The Stanners Trophy competition was held on the Academy Course and there has also been a Non-Congu 9 hole competition in on the main course. Thanks again to the adults who were willing to go round with the youngsters, without this and other support we could not have run this competition.

We are taking two teams to Ludlow on Thursday 13th August to play in the Centenary Texas Scramble.

We continue to have varied attendance at Junior Coaching but it continues to challenge those who are present. The activities are interesting, challenging and most importantly fun. Everyone enjoys the sessions enormously.

Greens Work

Members should be aware that there will be considerable work on the 3rd green starting, probably in late September.  This is mainly to improve the drainage and includes 5 significant trenches.  The green will therefore be closed through out the winter and the 17th tee will again be used as a temporary green.  Some materials for this work may be moved into place near the green in advance of the start of the work.

Golf Events

Don’t forget the men’s captain’s day on 16th August.  The Seniors’ Open is on 27th August.  About 90 players have registered so far but more Kington players would be very welcome.  The Men’s Captain’s away day is at Cradoc on 19th September.  Sign up sheets are now on the board.

The joint captains’ charity day went very well and raised £1168 for their charity, St Michael’s hospice.

Kington Community choir

The choir meets on Thursdays at Kington Primary School.  It sings rock, pop and musicals just for fun.  All are welcome, especially men!  There are no auditions and you don’t have to be a good singer to take part, just enthusiastic!  If you are interested ring either Tina Davison on 01544 262762 or Valerie Whittaker on 01544 260633.
